Watching one player

Over the past couple of games my son and I have started watching just one player. We are watching on TV in the U.S. Not at the ground.
Our first subject was Lanzini against Liverpool. He shirked tackles, passed sideways and didn't run much to make himself open for a pass.
Our second was Haller. He runs around at a leisurely pace when the opposition have the ball, never really believing he can win the ball from them and then when he is the target man he invariably loses it. When we are on the attack he is often man-marked and does little to lose his marker.
Lanzinzi was good in the past and Haller was good for Frankfurt. Is this the fault of tactical genius David Moyes or the fault of the players.

Following Haller around with a camera must be the most boring job in TV. Would be more fun following Moyes.

Dont you remember Skys player cam? They ditched it sharpish tbf, it was novel at first but made you realise how little many players did in 90 mins

Watching that pile of shit game again, surely there are better fucking things to do, like cutting your eyelids off and rubbing salt and vinegar crisps into the wounds.

This sort of analysis can be a bit subjective at times. Was Haller conserving his energy to get through his 6th game in 20-odd days? Probably. Does Lanzini pass sideways? - for sure, but sometimes it's the best option. Target men will often lose the ball because of the higher pressure on the ball in that role - you can win less of your duels and still be useful in that role. Players can be under instruction to not chase back and look to find space to break - depends on the strategy. Also watching anyone against Liverpool you're likely to see them at their worst.
I re-watched both pretty closely vs Everton after the criticism they were getting - I thought they worked incredibly hard in that game to defend from the front and played a big part in our pressing in that game.

Moyes has been there 5 minutes, Haller's malaise started way before his arrival.

Possibly a huge confidence thing for Lanzini after his injury. He may well look completely different in training, hence the gaffers persistence in playing him.

yes, hopefully Bowen helps bring out the best in him. that's if the manager plays them both, but fingers crossed. against city, there may only be one out there

Haller looks lost and forlorn. His only chance of getting a goal comes from a set piece.

it's the managers fault for picking lanzini, with haller he has little alternative but pick him. of course they both should be doing more, but that comes down to man management
